Athens is not only a great city and archaeological monuments - there are also several beautiful beaches near the city center. We recommend the first beach of Voula, at the other end of the tram line from Syntagma. A day excursion by taxi or bus to Nea Makri is also highly recommended. Do not miss the fabulous fish restaurants, a few meters from the beach! Athens also offers the possibility of a full-day excursion to the nearby islands of Aegina, Poros and Hydra, all with great opportunities for swimming. These islands are a great way to enjoy the sun and sea in the vicinity of Athens.
The public transport system - metro, trolley, bus and tram - is really very good. It is easy to understand, it serves most of the sites of Athens and Piraeus. From Athens International Airport, you can go by bus or metro to Syntagma Square in downtown, a trip that lasts about 50 minutes. Our apartment is only minutes walk from Syntagma Square in a pedestrian street in Plaka.
You have not really been to Athens, if you have not visited the Acropolis and the Lykavittos Hill and enjoyed the beautiful view of the fascinating Greek capital. Another must is of course the Acropolis Museum! Whether you want to go shopping or just window shopping, the neighborhood of Kolonaki is the place par excellence for luxury brands. Maybe you want to hunt around and find the right deal? The Monastiraki flea market is a must! If you visit in summer, do not miss the Athens Festival in the outdoor amphitheater of Herodes Atticus, a short walk from our apartment.
The Greek cuisine is well known for its delicious and wholesome simplicity. Of course there are restaurants for all tastes and wallets. We look forward to sharing our experiences with you to give your visit a culinary dimension!
